Central America faces intensifying extreme weather patterns

Central American nations are experiencing increasingly extreme weather patterns driven by climate change and shifting oceanic systems. In El Salvador, intense heat has become a regular occurrence, with temperatures reaching 43.5 degrees Celsius in Santa Rosa de Lima. Meteorologist Moisés Urbina noted that high temperatures are persisting through the night. Additionally, a tropical wave is expected to bring increased cloudiness and rain to various regions, including the volcanic chain and northern mountainous areas, potentially causing wet conditions over the weekend.

In Honduras, climate expert César Quintanilla warned that the country is oscillating between extreme phenomena, such as severe flooding and intense heatwaves. He highlighted previous incidents where floods caused deaths in Tegucigalpa and heatwaves impacted residents in La Ceiba and the southern region. Quintanilla emphasized that warming in the atmosphere and oceans is driving these cycles, including desertification, which threatens livelihoods and contributes to internal displacement. He has proposed coordinated actions, such as implementing soil regeneration techniques used in Asia, to combat land degradation.
