Central American Parliament establishes Israel alliance
The Central American Parliament (PARLACEN) has established its first institutional alliance with Israel through the launch of the Israel Allies Caucus. This move aims to formalize ties between the regional legislative body and Israel.
Karla Gutiérrez, President of PARLACEN, announced that she intends to lobby lawmakers to approve Israel as an observer state as early as next month. To achieve this status, a two-thirds majority vote from the 124 legislators representing six member states is required. Israel would join other entities such as China, Mexico, and Morocco that currently hold observer status within the organization.
The initiative was supported by the Washington-based Israel Allies Foundation, which launched the caucus to institutionalize the relationship. The foundation noted that this new chapter represents a significant milestone in strengthening diplomatic and cooperative bonds between Israel and Central America.
