Central Bank Governor discusses potential 23% increase in electronic coupons

Abdolnaser Hemmati, the Governor of the Central Bank of Iran, has stated that the government is committed to the continuous payment of electronic coupons and may increase their value by 22 to 23 percent to align with market price changes.

To prevent inflation, Hemmati emphasized that the financing for this scheme must not rely on printing money. The government is currently reviewing the list of eligible recipients, including efforts to identify and remove Iranians residing abroad from the subsidy list to free up resources.

While the proposed 23 percent increase is being discussed, official details regarding whether this will apply to all income deciles or only specific groups have yet to be finalized. The 1405 budget law has allocated approximately 960 trillion tomans to fund the electronic coupon scheme, which currently supports monthly payments of one million tomans per recipient.
