Brazil economic outlook: Inflation projections rise as GDP growth forecasts decline

Brazil's financial market has revised its economic outlook, raising inflation expectations while lowering GDP growth projections. According to the Central Bank's Focus Bulletin, the IPCA inflation projection for 2026 rose from 4.92% to 4.99%, driven largely by rising electricity costs following the end of the Itaipu bonus discount. The 12-month accumulated inflation rose to 4.47% in September.

Simultaneously, the GDP growth forecast for 2026 was reduced for the third consecutive week, moving from 1.88% to 1.86%. The Selic interest rate is expected to remain stable at 13.5% per year by the end of 2026.

Additionally, the Industry Confidence Index (ICI) measured by FGV fell for the third straight month, dropping 2.4 points to 91.3 points in September. This decline reflects widespread deterioration across industrial segments and growing uncertainty regarding economic activity.
