Central Bank of Brazil orders liquidation of Credipaiva

The Central Bank of Brazil has ordered the extrajudicial liquidation of Credipaiva (Cooperativa de Crédito Mútuo dos Empregados do Centro Universitário Newton Paiva), a small credit cooperative. The decision was prompted by “grave violation of the norms that discipline the institution's activity” and failure to comply with Central Bank determinations.

Credipaiva is a small-scale independent credit cooperative classified under the S5 regulatory segment, which applies a simplified regulatory model to the market's smallest institutions. As of December 2025, the cooperative held approximately 0.000083% of the total assets of the Brazilian National Financial System. The institution primarily served employees of the Newton Paiva University Center.

As part of the liquidation process, the assets of the cooperative's former administrators have been made unavailable under the law. The Central Bank stated it will continue to take all necessary measures to investigate responsibilities, noting that findings may lead to administrative sanctions and reports to competent authorities.
