Central Bank of Egypt maintains interest rates and banking limits
The Central Bank of Egypt has maintained its key interest rates for the fourth consecutive time, keeping the overnight deposit rate at 19% and the lending rate at 20%. This decision follows an assessment of inflation trends, which saw a slight increase in July 2026.
Banking regulations in Egypt dictate specific limits for cash transactions. Customers can withdraw up to 250,000 EGP daily from bank branches and up to 30,000 EGP daily via ATMs. While withdrawals from a customer's own bank ATM are typically free, using an ATM from a different bank incurs a fee, such as 5 EGP for National Bank of Egypt or Banque Misr, and 7 EGP for CIB.
Regarding the InstaPay instant payment system, transfer limits are set at 70,000 EGP per transaction, with a daily maximum of 120,000 EGP and a monthly limit of 400,000 EGP. Transaction fees for InstaPay are 0.1% of the transaction value, with a minimum of 0.50 EGP and a maximum of 20 EGP per transaction.
