Central Bank of Eswatini launches commemorative coin design competition

The Central Bank of Eswatini (CBE) has launched a national design competition for a commemorative E10 coin to celebrate the Kingdom of Eswatini’s 60th Independence Anniversary on September 6, 2028. The competition invites citizens, including artists, students, and designers, to submit original concepts that reflect the nation’s identity and culture.

Winners will receive Government Investment Instruments, with the top prize valued at E100,000, second place at E30,000, and third place at E20,000. CBE Governor Dr. Phil Mnisi noted that the new coin will serve as a lasting symbol of national pride and will co-circulate with the existing E10 banknote.

Beyond commemoration, the introduction of the coin aims to improve economic efficiency. Dr. Mnisi explained that while banknotes typically last one to five years, coins can last between 20 and 50 years, which will help reduce the long-term costs of replacing heavily worn currency.
