Central Bank of Montenegro marks 25th anniversary with high-level conference

The Central Bank of Montenegro (CBCG) marked its 25th anniversary with a high-level international conference in Tivat titled ‘Central Banking in a High-Risk Environment: Stability, Infrastructure, and Trust’. The event gathered governors from eurozone and European Union central banks, as well as representatives from the European Systemic Risk Board, the European Anti-Money Laundering and Countering the Financing of Terrorism Authority (AMLA), the Bundesbank, the Bank of England, the International Monetary Fund (IMF), and the World Bank.

During the opening, CBCG Governor Irena Radović noted that the institution is undergoing its most intense transformation since its founding as Montenegro enters the final stages of its European path. She highlighted recent reforms, including Montenegro’s entry into the SEPA area and the introduction of instant payments. IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva also addressed the participants via video message.

CBCG Vice Governor Zorica Kalezić emphasized that modern central banking requires proactive resilience, institutional integration, responsible innovation, and strong independence to maintain trust during economic shocks.
