Central Bank of Nigeria Announces Fintech Growth Priorities and Recapitalisation

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) presented five strategic priorities to accelerate the country’s fintech sector. The agenda stresses building a digital financial ecosystem that is secure, inclusive, competitive and trusted, with reliable services, transparent pricing, prompt complaint resolution and robust cybersecurity and fraud‑prevention measures. The priorities were outlined at the 3rd Business Journal Fintech & Financial Inclusion Roundtable in Lagos, with CBN officials Olayemi Cardoso and Dr. Rakiya Yusuf emphasizing consumer protection and resilient digital infrastructure.

FairMoney Microfinance Bank Managing Director Henry Obiekea highlighted the ongoing CBN recapitalisation programme as a complementary investment that will strengthen Nigeria’s financial ecosystem. He argued that successful recapitalisation will boost financial stability, expand credit access for SMEs, improve investor confidence and support a more inclusive economy, reinforcing the regulatory framework for fintech firms that handle payments, lending and savings services.
