Central Bank of Nigeria warns of forged $46 billion grant letter
The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has issued a formal warning regarding a forged document circulating on social media. The fraudulent letter claims to authorize the immediate transfer of $46 billion to the ATUFEG Empowerment and Development Center as a developmental grant.
The fake document, which is dated August 13, 2026, features the CBN letterhead, the Nigerian coat of arms, and an official-looking seal. It also carries the purported signature of CBN Governor Yemi Cardoso and describes the authorization as ‘final and binding.’
The CBN has labeled the content as ‘FAKE’ and urged the public to disregard the document. This warning follows a trend of sophisticated forgeries and unauthorized entities impersonating financial institutions and corporate brands to facilitate scams.
