Central Bank of Paraguay to launch new banknote designs
The Central Bank of Paraguay (BCP) has announced the introduction of a new family of banknotes to commemorate the 83rd anniversary of the guaraní. This redesign aims to update the national currency's iconography to better reflect Paraguay's identity, history, and biodiversity.
The new banknotes will feature elements related to the nation's flora, fauna, and historical milestones. The project, which began with research in 2023, involved contributions from historians, biologists, and cultural experts to ensure a representative approach to Paraguayan heritage. Additionally, the update includes technical innovations to improve security and accessibility.
Notably, the redesign will not involve the removal of zeros from the currency. This marks the first major structural modification to the national banknote family in over 60 years. The official presentation is scheduled for Monday, October 5, at the BCP Institute.
