Central Bank of Russia approves Bitcoin, Ether, and Tether for trading
The Central Bank of Russia has approved Bitcoin, Ether, and Tether (USDT) for public trading on domestic exchanges. The new regulation, which takes effect on November 17, establishes a specific list of digital assets that trading organizers may include in public offerings.
To mitigate risks from price volatility, the bank has implemented restrictions for non-qualified investors. These individuals are limited to purchasing up to 300,000 rubles (approximately $3,660) worth of these assets per calendar year through any single broker. The selection of these specific assets was based on criteria including market capitalization, average daily trading volume, and a minimum five-year price history on international platforms.
Qualified investors will be permitted to trade cryptocurrencies on both exchanges and over-the-counter markets without these specific purchase volume limits. Regardless of investor status, all participants must complete a knowledge assessment and acknowledge the risks associated with cryptocurrency investments before conducting transactions.
