Central banks weigh interest rate decisions amid global inflation shifts
Major central banks are making pivotal interest rate decisions. The Bank of Japan is widely expected to raise interest rates to approximately 1.25 percent, marking its highest level in over 31 years. While a hike is anticipated, market focus remains on Governor Kazuo Ueda’s guidance regarding the future pace of monetary normalization and the impact of recent inflation data.
In Europe, the Czech National Bank (CNB) has held its key repo rate steady at 3.75 percent. Governor Aleš Michl noted that while the decision was unanimous, the bank remains prepared to tighten policy if inflationary pressures, such as wage growth and service prices, intensify.
The Bank of England is also expected to maintain current rates despite rising inflation, as policymakers weigh the impact of energy prices on the economy. Meanwhile, in Australia, RBA Governor Michele Bullock indicated that inflation risks are materializing, fueling speculation regarding potential future rate hikes.
