Central Dalmatia showcases heritage at European Parliament
Central Dalmatia presented its cultural and gastronomic heritage at the European Parliament in Brussels during the ‘Days of Croatian Linguistic History, Culture and Gastronomy’ event. The presentation featured promotional films such as ‘The Dream is Real’ and ‘Dalmatinska marenda’ to showcase the region's landscape and lifestyle. The event was attended by high-ranking officials, including European Parliament President Roberta Metsola and Croatian Minister of Tourism and Sport Tonči Glavina. This showcase precedes 2027, when Central Dalmatia will hold the title of European Region of Gastronomy, a recognition awarded by the International Institute of Gastronomy, Culture, Art and Tourism (IGCAT).
In a separate cultural development, the Gipsy Lore Society, an organization founded in 1888, held a conference involving several Croatian institutions, including the University of Zagreb and the Ivo Pilar Institute. The society, which focuses on Romani history, language, and culture, has transitioned from a paternalistic approach to a partnership-based model involving more Romani scholars. The event highlighted the long history of Romani studies in Croatia, noting that academic interest in the linguistic origins of the Romani language dates back centuries.
