Central Denmark Region dementia diagnosis needs faster, more equal access

Nicolai Estrup of the Danish People's Party is calling for faster and more equitable dementia diagnosis processes across Central Denmark Region (Region Midtjylland). He highlights that many citizens and their families currently face long, uncertain waiting periods following a suspicion of dementia, which causes significant anxiety and frustration.

Estrup argues that a patient's postal code should not determine the speed or specialization of their diagnosis. He advocates for equal opportunities for residents in both the eastern and western parts of the region to receive thorough and specialized assessments. To achieve this, he proposes strengthening capacity, reducing waiting times, and improving cooperation between hospitals, municipalities, general practitioners, and specialized dementia units.

The initiative aims to bring the need for improved dementia services into upcoming budget negotiations within the Central Denmark Region to ensure specialized knowledge is accessible where citizens live.
