Central Election Commission appointment dispute between LVV and PDK

Acting President Albulena Haxhiu has sparked political tension following the appointment of only nine members to the Central Election Commission (CEC), leaving the tenth seat vacant. This delay has drawn criticism from civil society and former CEC Chairperson Valdete Daka.

Critics argue that the incomplete composition of the commission may violate constitutional provisions regarding political party representation. Daka has suggested that the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) may need to take the matter to the Constitutional Court if the final member is not decreed, asserting that the current inaction infringes upon the rights established by the Constitution and the Law on General Elections.

According to Naim Jakaj, a researcher at the Kosovo Institute for Justice (IKD), the parliamentary composition following the June 7 elections dictates that the Vetëvendosje Movement (LVV) should hold two seats, the PDK should hold two, and the LDK and Alliance should each hold one.
