Central Europe prepares for autumn clock change

On the night of Saturday, October 24, to Sunday, October 25, 2026, countries including Slovakia and the Czech Republic will transition from daylight saving time to standard time by setting clocks back one hour.

Medical experts note that while the extra hour of sleep is beneficial, the shift affects biological rhythms. Cardiologist Tomáš Skála explains that the morning period is the most taxing for the heart due to rising blood pressure and stress hormones. While spring transitions are linked to an increased risk of heart attacks, data suggests the autumn shift is generally less disruptive to cardiovascular health.

Despite long-standing discussions within the European Union regarding the abolition of seasonal time changes, member states have not reached an agreement, necessitating the continued biannual adjustment.
