Extreme weather impacts Slovakia and the US with drought and heat
Extreme weather patterns are impacting various regions, characterized by severe drought and intense heatwaves. In Slovakia, meteorologists report that extreme summer temperatures and low precipitation since late 2025 have led to significant soil overheating and prolonged drought conditions. This has caused visible damage to forestry, including the yellowing and falling of leaves on deep-rooted trees like oaks, and has accelerated the ripening of agricultural crops, leading to earlier harvests.
In the United States, a massive heat dome is expected to affect the southern and central regions, stretching from Texas to Tennessee. Temperatures in some areas are projected to reach between 38 and 40 degrees Celsius, exacerbated by high humidity. Cities such as Dallas, Austin, and Nashville are facing these intense conditions alongside ongoing drought periods. Meanwhile, Slovakia is also experiencing significant temperature fluctuations, with brief summer-like warmth followed by sudden cold fronts and wind warnings.
