Central Garden & Pet acquires majority interest in TRIXIE, Europe's leading pet supplies firm

Central Garden & Pet Company announced a definitive agreement to acquire a majority interest in TRIXIE Heimtierbedarf GmbH & Co. KG, the German‑based leader in pet supplies founded in 1974. TRIXIE employs roughly 600 people, offers more than 6,000 products for dogs, cats, birds, reptiles and small animals, and serves over 30,000 retailers worldwide. The European pet‑supplies market is valued at about €10 billion.

Financial terms were not disclosed. The transaction is expected to close in the first half of Central’s fiscal 2027, pending regulatory approval. TRIXIE’s current management team will stay in place, and founder Bonnik Hansen along with shareholders Dirk Jessen and Volker Haak will retain minority stakes. The deal will give Central roughly 10 % of net sales generated outside the United States and expand its presence across key European pet‑supply markets.
