Central Greece Regional Council rejects Tanagra air show and approves farmer debt relief
The 16th session of the Regional Council of Central Greece was held in Lamia, addressing several critical issues including agricultural debt, wildfire recovery, and the future of local aviation events.
Following a minute of silence for two Hellenic Air Force officers who died in a recent accident at Tanagra, the Council voted unanimously against hosting the ‘Athens Flying Week’ at Tanagra. Regional Governor Fani Spanos stated that continuing the event would be ‘unwise and disrespectful’ to the memory of the fallen pilots. The administration also expressed intentions to cease funding for the event, which was previously used for regional tourism promotion.
Regarding agriculture, the Council approved a regulation to allow the settlement of outstanding irrigation fees for the Kopaida Field through up to 48 installments, providing relief to farmers in Boeotia. Additionally, discussions focused on support measures for professionals and residents in areas affected by summer wildfires, emphasizing the need for fire prevention zones and compensation for farmers and livestock breeders. The session also addressed water quality concerns in Kamena Vourla, with officials reporting that recent checks deemed swimming areas suitable.
