Central Greece rejects Gorgopotamos hydroelectric project

The Environmental and Spatial Planning Committee of the Central Greece Region has issued a unanimous negative opinion regarding a proposed 0.775 MW small hydroelectric power project on the Gorgopotamos River. The project, proposed by VaserCraft S.A. in the Municipality of Lamia, Phthiotis, was rejected based on scientific documentation provided by the regional environmental department.

Authorities concluded that the project's location and technical design are environmentally unacceptable. Key concerns include incompatibility with critical water supply infrastructure and the imposition of permanent pressure on a protected water body and an area of high ecological value. Regional officials emphasized that the decision aims to protect the sensitive Gorgopotamos ecosystem and the water resources essential for the city of Lamia.
