Central Highlands agricultural exports boosted by customs and area code reforms
Authorities in Vietnam's Central Highlands are implementing measures to boost agricultural exports by streamlining customs procedures and expanding growing area codes.
Regional Customs Department XIV is working in Dak Lak and Gia Lai to facilitate trade by providing early guidance to businesses on documentation, commodity codes, and specialized management policies. This proactive approach aims to reduce errors, minimize processing time, and lower costs for exporters. The department is also utilizing risk-based management to balance trade facilitation with the prevention of smuggling and origin fraud.
In Gia Lai, the decentralization of administrative procedures to the commune level has significantly simplified the process for obtaining growing area codes and packaging facility certifications. As of late September, the province added 61 new growing area codes covering 168.67 hectares. Gia Lai now maintains a total of 497 growing area codes across more than 13,174 hectares, supporting exports to major markets such as China. Additionally, new packaging facilities, including a durian facility capable of processing 50 to 70 tons per day, are being developed to strengthen the agricultural value chain.
