Central Java aims for 10.5 million tons of rice production in 2026

Central Java Governor Ahmad Luthfi expressed optimism that the province will reach its 2026 rice production target of 10.5 million tons following the onset of the rainy season. As of September 2026, production has already reached 8.5 million tons.

To support agricultural productivity, the provincial government has implemented several mitigation strategies, including mapping drought-prone areas and strengthening irrigation infrastructure such as reservoirs, embankments, and secondary and tertiary irrigation channels. The province manages 242,826 hectares of rain-fed rice fields and 530,748 hectares of irrigated rice fields, using pumping irrigation for the former and network irrigation for the latter.

Additionally, the government has prepared crop failure insurance to protect 10,000 hectares of farmland at risk of loss due to pests, floods, or drought, ensuring farmers maintain necessary capital.
