Central Java authorities launch initiative to detect clubfoot in infants

Authorities and health organizations in Central Java are collaborating to improve the early detection and handling of Congenital Talipes Equinovarus (CTEV), a condition where a baby's foot is twisted inward and downward.

Through the ‘Polda Jateng Peduli CTEV’ program, the Central Java Regional Police (Polda Jateng) and the Muhammadiyah Health Development Council (MPKU) are training community police officers (Bhabinkamtibmas) to recognize signs of the condition. This initiative aims to map potential cases at the village level and connect families with medical facilities.

In Demak Regency, officials have socialized the importance of early screening, noting that CTEV can be detected during pregnancy via ultrasound, particularly after 24 weeks. Health experts emphasize that while the condition is present from birth, early intervention is critical to prevent long-term mobility issues. Parents are encouraged to consult medical professionals immediately upon noticing any foot abnormalities in infants.
