Central Java Moves to Create New Brebes Selatan Regency

The provincial government of Central Java, together with the regional legislature (DPRD), has formally proposed splitting the southern part of Brebes Regency into a new autonomous region called Brebes Selatan. The proposal, presented by Provincial Secretary Sumarno on behalf of Governor Ahmad Luthfi, has passed an initial feasibility study that confirms the required criteria are met.

The plan now proceeds to a DPRD debate, after receiving approval from the Brebes Regency council. If endorsed, it will be forwarded to the national government for verification by an independent team. Officials say the main goal is to bring public services closer to residents by reducing the distance to administrative centers, thereby improving speed and accessibility of government assistance.
