Sukoharjo Police Raid at Hamalatul Quran Islamic Boarding School

Police from the Central Java Regional Police and Sukoharjo Police conducted raids at the Hamalatul Quran Islamic boarding school in Sukoharjo and a related facility in Karanganyar on October 27, 2026. The operation was part of an investigation into an arson and vandalism case involving a pork noodle stall in Parangjoro Village that occurred in September 2026. Authorities stated they were searching for a wanted suspect, an alleged former terrorism convict.

The raids have drawn significant public and political criticism due to allegations of procedural violations and intimidation. Reports indicate that officers used long firearms, broke down doors, and allegedly intimidated female students, some of whom were forced out of their rooms before they could wear hijabs. Komnas HAM and members of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR) have called for independent investigations into the use of excessive force and the protection of women and children during the operation.

In response to the controversy, the Indonesian National Police (Polri) confirmed that Propam is investigating potential misconduct. AKBP Andika Dharma Sena, the Sukoharjo Police Chief at the time, has been removed from his position. Additionally, the Ministry of Religious Affairs confirmed that the Hamalatul Quran institution in Sukoharjo did not possess an official operational permit.
