Central Java prosecutors investigate smart classroom corruption

The Central Java High Prosecutor's Office (Kejati Jateng) is investigating alleged corruption regarding the procurement of smart TVs for a 'smart classroom' program across 13 regencies and cities. The project, implemented in 2024 using funds from the Central Java Provincial Government, is under scrutiny for significant price inflation.

Investigators report that the 84-inch smart TVs were reportedly imported from China without branding. Once they arrived in Indonesia, the devices were allegedly rebranded before distribution. Ade Hermawan, Assistant for Special Crimes at Kejati Jateng, stated that the prices were suspected to have been marked up by as much as six times the original value.

To date, investigators have questioned approximately 50 witnesses. The probe has now moved into the stage of calculating the total potential state losses resulting from the procurement scheme.
