Central Java reports economic growth and rising rice production targets

As Central Java approaches its 81st anniversary, the province is demonstrating strong economic resilience and a significant role in national food security. In the first half of 2026, the province recorded a cumulative economic growth of 5.80%, surpassing the national average.

This economic expansion has coincided with a decline in poverty. According to BPS data, the number of poor residents in Central Java fell to 3.29 million (9.21%) in March 2026, a decrease from previous periods. The province also remains a major economic contributor, accounting for 14.50% of the economy on Java Island.

In the agricultural sector, Central Java continues to serve as a vital national food granary. Following a 2025 production of 9.39 million tons of dry milled grain (GKG), the provincial government has set a production target of approximately 10.56 million tons for 2026. As of July 2026, production reached approximately 6.74 million tons, representing about 63.43% of the annual goal.
