Central Java Rice Output Hits 6.7 M Tons, Prepares for Drought
The provincial government of Central Java announced that rice production has reached an estimated 6.69 million tons of milled rice (GKG) for the January‑July 2026 period, covering about 63 % of Indonesia's national self‑sufficiency target of 10.5 million tons by 2026. Governor Ahmad Luthfi highlighted the achievement at a harvest ceremony in Sukoharjo and warned that an extended dry season could threaten future yields. He called for mapping drought‑prone areas, expanding irrigation infrastructure, and distributing around 17 000 new water‑pumping units to support farmers.
Data from the Central Java Statistics Agency show that ten regencies together produced the bulk of the province’s rice, with Cilacap leading at 436 222 tons, followed by Grobogan, Sragen and others. Overall agricultural productivity in 2025 surpassed the central government’s targets, reinforcing Central Java’s role as Indonesia’s second‑largest rice‑producing province and a key pillar of national food security.
