Central Kalimantan maintains strict wildfire monitoring as hotspots decline
The Central Kalimantan Provincial Government is maintaining strict monitoring of forest and land fire hotspots despite a recent downward trend in numbers. Authorities emphasized that the decline in hotspots does not justify lowering vigilance, as the potential for fire spikes remains high.
During the current Emergency Response Status, which runs from August 31 to September 29, 2026, hotspot counts have shown significant decreases. Data indicates there were 5,746 hotspots on September 6, dropping to 1,824 on September 7, and further decreasing to 950 by September 8.
Monitoring efforts are concentrated in areas with high activity, including Pulang Pisau with 341 hotspots, East Kotawaringin with 125, and Sukamara with 123. Following instructions from Governor Agustiar Sabran, the Forestry Office is working to ensure swift and continuous fire suppression through inter-agency collaboration.
