Central Macedonia allocates €3 million for Roma inclusion in seven towns

The Region of Central Macedonia announced a €3 million social‑inclusion programme for Roma families across seven municipalities. The scheme, funded through the regional ESFA budget, will operate in four western Thessaloniki districts (Kordelio‑Evosmos, Pavlos Melas, Chalkidona), two Imathia areas (Veroia, Naousa) and Serres. It targets children aged 2‑12 and their parents, offering experiential workshops, summer camps, psychosocial counselling, and supplemental teaching to curb school dropout. Mobile and fixed intervention units will deliver the activities, while multidisciplinary teams provide support and mediation services. The initiative aligns with Greece’s National Strategy for Roma (2021‑2030) and local municipal plans, as noted by Regional Governor Athina Aidona.

The programme aims to strengthen social cohesion, empower parents, and improve educational outcomes for vulnerable Roma communities in Central Macedonia.
