Central Macedonia urban conditions described as disappointing by Giannis Mylopoulos
At the 21st Panhellenic Congress of the Greek Inter-Municipal Network of Healthy Cities in Edessa, Giannis Mylopoulos, head of the ‘Change in Central Macedonia’ faction, criticized the current state of cities in the Central Macedonia region. He described the existing conditions as ‘disappointing’ and advocated for the development of sustainable, resilient, and healthy urban environments.
Mylopoulos emphasized that healthy cities, according to World Health Organization standards, must improve both their physical and social environments. He outlined seven key characteristics for such cities, including clean natural environments, accessible green spaces, sustainable mobility, quality housing, equitable access to services, social cohesion, and resilience against climate change and natural disasters.
