Central Michigan Football Marks 125-Year Milestone While Looking Ahead to 2026 Season

Central Michigan University launched a 125‑year celebration of its football program, highlighting the 1974 Chippewas’ Division II national championship. Under head coach Roy Kramer, the team finished 12‑1 and won the title game 54‑14 over Delaware, with standout performances such as running back Walt Hodges’ 1,693 rushing yards.

The university also previewed the 2026 season. After a 7‑6 record and a bowl appearance in 2025, the Chippewas enter their second year under head coach Matt Drinkall. The team will rely heavily on the run, aiming to improve on last season’s 3.9 yards per carry while enhancing the passing game. Key departures include quarterback Joe Labas and leading rusher Nahree Biggins, while returning players such as linebacker Jordan Kwiatkowski and receiver Langston Lewis are expected to lead the squad.
