Central Okanagan Public Schools issues school bus safety reminder
Central Okanagan Public Schools has issued a safety reminder following a social media video showing a school bus incident in Lake Country. The footage captured a second bus driving past a stopped bus while the first bus was deploying its stop sign to pick up children.
Transportation manager Gail Prokopchuk noted that a bus driver may have extended the stop sign too early, potentially causing confusion for other motorists. The school district plans to remind drivers of their training regarding the proper timing for deploying lights and stop signs.
In the region, drivers are required to stop for school buses with extended stop signs and flashing red lights in both directions. Failure to comply can result in a $368 fine and three penalty points.
