Central Omega Resources launches hybrid solar plant at nickel mine

PT Central Omega Resources Tbk (DKFT) has launched an off-grid hybrid solar power plant (PLTS) at its nickel mining site in Morowali Utara, Central Sulawesi. Developed in partnership with PT Xurya Daya Indonesia, the project makes Central Omega the first nickel mining company in the Morowali Utara region to integrate hybrid solar technology into its operations.

The solar system is expected to generate 404,230 kWh of clean energy annually. This transition is projected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 343.6 tons per year, an impact comparable to the carbon absorption of 3,902 trees. The energy output is also equivalent to charging 5,630 electric vehicles.

Central Omega Director Andi Jaya stated that the implementation proves renewable energy can be practically applied in mining operations to increase energy independence and support sustainable mining. The hybrid system integrates solar power with existing power plants to ensure production continuity while reducing reliance on fossil fuels. Morowali Utara Regent Delis Julkarson Hehi noted that the project aligns with national targets to develop 100 GW of solar energy.
