Central Park cyclist defends herself during robbery attempt
A 32-year-old woman, Katherine Marroquin, used a stainless steel Stanley cup to defend herself against three men during an attempted robbery in New York City's Central Park on Sunday night.
The incident occurred shortly before 10 p.m. near the reservoir, specifically around West 93rd Street and West Drive or East Drive near East 90th Street. Marroquin, a building maintenance worker, reported that she had stopped her bicycle to retrieve dropped AirPods when the three men emerged from behind bushes and struck her in the head.
Marroquin stated that the suspects began emptying her book bag, at which point she grabbed the tumbler that had been thrown to the ground and used it to fight back. She believes the attackers were targeting valuables such as her phone and bicycle.
