Central Park cyclist killed in collision with dog

A 71-year-old man died on Monday morning following a bicycle collision with a golden retriever in New York City’s Central Park. The incident occurred around 8:30 AM near East 84th Street on the East Drive.

Despite wearing a helmet, the cyclist sustained severe head and body injuries after being thrown from his bike. He was transported to New York-Presbyterian Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The dog and its owner, who attempted to provide aid, were uninjured.

While Central Park regulations allow dogs to be off-leash between 6:00 AM and 9:00 AM, they must remain on a leash while on park drives. The NYPD is investigating the circumstances of the crash. This fatality follows a separate incident last month in the same area where a cyclist struck and killed a pedestrian, prompting the Central Park Conservancy to call for increased safety measures and stricter rule enforcement.
