Central Prison staff demand proper shift allowances

Labor unions KTAMS and KAMUSEN held a joint demonstration in front of the Central Prison to demand that shift allowances be properly reflected in the salaries of prison staff.

Asım Kamacı, a member of the KTAMS Board and prison guard, noted that the facility operated without an appointed director for seven months. He stated that the workload has increased as the number of prisoners and detainees has reached 834 across two prisons. Kamacı emphasized that the primary grievance is the failure to fully pay shift allowances to staff working nights, weekends, and holidays, and called for a regulatory change to resolve the issue for all public employees working irregular shifts.

KAMUSEN President Metin Atan also addressed the demonstration, highlighting the personal sacrifices made by shift workers. He claimed that despite previous assurances from Interior Minister Dursun Oğuz that promotions would follow the appointment of a new prison director, no progress has been made regarding staff promotions.
