Central Regional Forest Service implements triple-layer disaster risk assessment

The Central Regional Forest Service has implemented a ‘triple safety net’ system to assess disaster risks for buildings located within 50 meters of forested areas. This initiative, part of the Forest Disaster Prevention Act enacted in February, aims to protect lives and property from landslides and forest fires during the construction, expansion, or repurposing of buildings.

The assessment process utilizes a three-step cross-verification method: first, analyzing scientific data through the Digital Slope Integrated Information System to determine risk levels for landslides and forest fires; second, conducting on-site inspections by professional investigators to examine drainage systems and physical conditions; and third, using artificial intelligence (AI) via the ‘On-AI’ platform to cross-verify field reports with internal data to eliminate human error.

The service operates within the jurisdiction of Chungnam, Daejeon, Sejong, and Chungbuk provinces. When building permit applications are submitted to local municipal departments, the regional forest service reviews the site's risk and provides official opinions to ensure safety standards are met before construction proceeds.
