Central team assesses Cyclone Arnab damage in Odisha
An eight-member Inter-Ministerial Central Team is conducting a damage assessment in Odisha following the destruction caused by Cyclone Arnab and subsequent flooding. Led by Ravi Shankar, Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs, the team has conducted field visits to the Gajapati and Ganjam districts.
During inspections in Ganjam, the team examined significant damage to agricultural crops, irrigation structures, roads, bridges, and power infrastructure. Specific areas reviewed include the Purushottampur, Hinjili, Asika, and Dharakote blocks. Officials noted extensive damage to river embankments, canals, and public health institutions, such as the Asika Sub-Divisional Hospital.
A preliminary meeting was held in Bhubaneswar, chaired by Chief Secretary Anu Garg, where the team shared field observations with state government officials. District Collectors have indicated that additional time is required to complete a comprehensive assessment due to the scale of the destruction. The findings will be compiled into a report for the government.
