Central United States faces flooding risk from rare hybrid storm
Meteorologists are warning of a rare and potentially dangerous “hybrid storm” expected to impact a large portion of the central United States. This weather event will result from the combination of three distinct systems: the remnants of Hurricane Polo, the remnants of Hurricane Odalys, and an upper-level low.
The interaction of these systems is expected to funnel massive amounts of moisture from the Gulf of Mexico across the central U.S., creating a risk for flash flooding. The National Weather Service has indicated that the threat area is extensive, with forecasts suggesting several days of heavy to excessive rainfall that could lead to “considerable” flooding in various regions.
