Central University student's death sparks investigation demand
The father of Ivan Apprey Baidoo, a 20-year-old law student at Central University, is demanding a full investigation into his son’s death following a motorcycle crash on the Accra-Tema Motorway.
According to Evans Baidoo, the accident occurred on August 27, 2026, after Ivan left home to play football. The family was notified of the death by a stranger who answered Ivan’s phone, initially claiming to be an eyewitness before identifying as a police officer who had been pursuing the motorcycle.
Reports suggest a police officer on another motorcycle may have pursued the vehicle, allegedly drew a pistol, and struck the motorcycle from behind near the motorway toll booth. While the surviving rider was reportedly arrested and charged with murder, the family has raised concerns regarding the identity of the officer involved, the whereabouts of Ivan’s phone, and the handling of the investigation.
The family has petitioned the Director-General of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) to conduct a thorough probe into the circumstances of the crash.
