Central Vigilance Commission reports 70,000 corruption complaints

The Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) annual report for 2025 reveals that 70,584 corruption complaints were filed against government departments last year. Banks and the Railways emerged as the sectors with the highest number of complaints, recording 9,933 and 9,381 cases respectively.

Chief Vigilance Officers (CVOs) disposed of 64,905 complaints by December 31, 2025, leaving 5,679 cases pending. Of these pending matters, 2,002 had been outstanding for more than three months, exceeding the standard investigation timeframe.

While complaints against the Ministry of Home Affairs have seen a significant decline from a peak of 46,643 in 2022 to 2,309 in 2023, the data suggests this trend may be influenced by the exclusion of Delhi Police complaints from the Ministry's total. Separately, 2,633 complaints were filed against the Delhi Police. Other notable sectors receiving complaints include the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (6,531), Human Resource Development (2,030), and the Ministry of Labour (1,894).
