Central Water Authority faces critical water loss challenges

The Central Water Authority (CWA) is facing significant challenges regarding water loss and network management. Hermann Joseph, a former Deputy General Manager of the CWA, has highlighted that approximately 60% of treated water is lost, though he notes the difficulty in precisely documenting whether these losses are due to physical leaks or measurement inaccuracies.

Joseph argues that the current crisis is not merely a result of low rainfall but is a symptom of systemic failures in distribution and treatment. He advocates for a long-term strategic partnership, lasting five to ten years, to implement automated network management and reliable measurement tools. He warns that performing isolated repairs or replacing pipes without technical expertise and data-driven oversight will fail to resolve the recurring water crises.
