Central-West Orana Renewable Energy Zone begins transmission line installation
Construction has reached a new milestone in the Central-West Orana Renewable Energy Zone (REZ) as crews begin stringing high-voltage transmission lines between towers. The 240-kilometre network, which runs from Elong Elong through Merotherie to Barigan Creek, currently has 64 towers erected.
ACEREZ, the network company engaged by the state government to design, build, and operate the infrastructure, is managing the installation of conductors. This process is a critical stage in creating a continuous pathway for electricity. The project is scheduled for energisation in 2028.
EnergyCo, the official infrastructure planner, stated that the REZ is supporting local businesses and creating jobs while providing necessary energy infrastructure for New South Wales. Despite local opposition to the project, officials describe the progress as a significant step toward energising Australia’s first Renewable Energy Zone.
