Centre applies for grant to renovate Estes Field

The Centre City Council has approved an application for an Appalachian Regional Commission grant to renovate Estes Field. The grant would provide a 50/50 match of up to $500,000, aiming to transform the site into a ticketed entertainment venue.

Proposed improvements for Estes Field include upgraded lighting, new fencing, and bathroom renovations to address drainage and structural wall issues. During the meeting, representatives from the Historical Preservation Society of Cherokee County Alabama provided a history of the field and discussed future plans.

Other council actions included approving a $24,942 fence rebuild for pickleball courts, authorizing engineering services for a new community center parking lot, and approving donations to the CED Mental Health Center and the Cherokee County Health and Rehab Center.
