Centre Chakhesang Youth Organisation announces second phase of agitation

The Centre Chakhesang Youth Organisation (CCYO) has announced the second phase of its agitation, scheduled to begin on October 12. The movement includes planned ‘indefinite picketing’ at the offices of the Divisional Forest Officer in Phek, as well as Forest Range Offices in Phek and Pfutsero.

The CCYO is protesting what it describes as “arbitrary action” by the Nagaland Forest Department against a local youth. The organization is demanding justice, accountability, transparency, and the recognition of the customary rights, traditions, and institutions of the Chakhesang people.

As part of the non-cooperation movement, the CCYO stated it will continue to refuse the enforcement of the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972, within its jurisdiction. Additionally, the organization announced that a ban on hunting within Centre Chakhesang territory will remain in effect starting October 9, following the conclusion of Wildlife Week.
