Centre del Carme to screen Spike Lee debut ‘Nola Darling’
The Centre del Carme Cultura Contemporània (CCCC) will host a screening of ‘Nola Darling’ (originally titled ‘She’s Gotta Have It’, 1986), the directorial debut of Spike Lee. The event is scheduled for Wednesday, August 19, at 10:00 PM in the center's Gothic cloister as part of the ‘CCCCinema d’Estiu’ summer film cycle.
Dedicated this year to the American continent, the cycle features Lee's pioneering independent film, which explores themes of sexuality, gender roles, and racial stereotypes through the story of a Brooklyn artist. The film previously received the Youth Prize at the 1986 Cannes Film Festival, as well as honors from the Independent Spirit Awards and the Los Angeles Film Critics Association.
The summer programming continues with other American comedies, including the Mexican film ‘De noche vienes, Esmeralda’ and the Brazilian romantic comedy ‘Lisbela e o Prisioneiro’.
