Centre Pompidou Paraná opening delayed to 2029
The opening of Centre Pompidou Paraná, the first operating outpost of the Paris-based museum in the Americas, has been delayed until 2029. The project, located in Foz do Iguaçu, Brazil, has missed several previous targets, including 2026, 2027, and late 2028.
Construction has not yet begun, and a builder has not been selected. The project is currently in technical preparatory stages for the bidding process. The procurement path has also shifted; while previous plans suggested an integrated design-and-build contract, the current approach involves separating the basic design phase from the builder selection.
The delay follows a change in the state administration of Paraná. While the original agreement was signed under Governor Carlos Massa Ratinho Junior with an investment of approximately $50 million, the new administration under Sergio Moro has taken over. A spokesperson for Centre Pompidou stated that the revised timeline aims to ensure the museum is established as a permanent state cultural policy rather than an initiative tied to a specific administration. The proposed building is designed by Paraguayan architect Solano Benítez and is expected to attract roughly 800,000 visitors annually.
