Centre-right picks candidates for Vergiate mayor and Sicily presidency

In Vergiate, a meeting on 3 August brought together representatives of Forza Italia, Lega, Lombardia Ideale and local civic lists to agree on a joint mayoral candidate and begin building a new electoral list. Fratelli d'Italia and the Vergiate 2030 civic list did not attend, but the coalition said it would keep the door open for future collaboration. The group aims to present a strong alternative to the incumbent administration that has governed the town for almost fifteen years.

In Sicily, centre‑right leaders are discussing the candidacy for the regional presidency. The recent relocation of Forza Italia commissioner Nino Minardo to Modica has sparked speculation about his possible run, while incumbent President Renato Schifani is reportedly seeking a second term. Other names mentioned include Giorgio Mulè, vice‑president of the Chamber of Deputies. The internal dynamics reflect the broader effort of the centre‑right to coordinate candidates ahead of upcoming elections.
